My family and I have been happily associated with Salt Lake Arts Academy since my oldest started 5th grade in 2015. Since then, two more of my children graduated from SLArts, the last one in 2023. I was here for the last four years of our founding principal, Amy Wadsworth’s tutelage, the pandemic, interim principals, a major addition to the building and finally, our current principal, Deborah Candler (who was also the principal at Wasatch Elementary for two of my children). I decided to join the board almost three years ago because I wanted to help this amazing school come out of the pandemic stronger and more resilient than ever.

I also made the decision to substitute teach when needed because I think as a board member, I should know something of what teachers, students and staff are experiencing daily. This is not a requirement (in case you’re thinking of joining the board!); I just think it’s important. My favorite is subbing for Ms. Elizabeth because: 1) I recently got a new fancy art degree, 2) I love Ms. Elizabeth, 3) I get to hear the drums from Judson’s magical music room, and 4) I get to learn the latest lingo from the students who kindly tolerate my presence.

In addition to a love of art, I’m a big music fan, foodie and unabashed dog mom of Queenie, the Scottish collie. I’m currently looking for a job that combines my background in communication/marketing with art so if y’all hear of anything...

But most of all, I feel very fortunate to still be on the SLArts board where I get to know dedicated parents and community members, make sure this special school is financially secure and ensure it has the best principal and business director possible.
