What we do!

The Salt Lake Arts Academy offers a robust, enriching, and just plain FUN After School program with more than 30 clubs and classes running each term. We have so much to choose from, the hardest part will be picking out which activity to do.

See details in our FAQ below and then register for classes per term.

After School FAQ

At the end of the regular school day (3 pm M-TH, or 12:35 pm FRI), students head outside to the north field where they hop in line to check-in, choose a snack, and hang out in the courtyard until our teachers and instructors gather their groups to begin the after school class or club.

After School classes and clubs start at 3:15 pm and run for 1, 1.5, or 2 hours, ending at 4:15, 4:45, or 5:15 pm. Please note when your student’s class ends.

Yes! Monday through Thursday, you can enroll in our Extended Day option, and your student can stay at school until 5:30 pm. On Fridays, all classes end at 3 pm, and Extended Day isn’t available.

The cost varies depending on the number of days a week the class meets or if there is a fee for supplies - anywhere from $75 a term to more than $200. You can choose how many after school classes or clubs you want to participate in.

Please note, your email receipt for any registered after school class is sent at the time of registration from CORE Payment Systems. This is your confirmation of enrollment.

While this is a fee-based program, we do offer financial assistance and scholarships for eligible families. See forms below.

Dismissal and Pick-Up Policy

As a downtown “Urban Campus,” we’re surrounded by rich cultural resources and diverse communities. Parents decide the best way for their child to get home.

School Schedule

  • Monday-Thursday: School ends at 3 pm. Classes and clubs end at varying times.
  • Friday: School ends at 12:35 pm. Classes and clubs end at 3 pm.

Students NOT in After School

  • Students leave the building at dismissal by pick-up, carpool, walking, bus/TRAX, skateboard, scooter, or bike. We expect respectful, responsible behavior in the community and on public transportation.
  • Students may not wait in the Main Office or hallways, even when it rains. Please don’t tell your child to “wait in the Office” unless a teacher or administrator has directed it.
  • They may wait at the top of the front stairs or at another public spot your family chooses. Waiting for a ride does not make them part of After School. Please be on time.
  • Please don’t double park or make U-turns at pick-up.

Students IN After School

  • Students go to the north field, check in, and choose a snack. Please don’t give them permission to leave the field (around the block, across the street, off to buy treats).
  • They stay on the field until instructors take them to class.
  • When class ends, the same dismissal rules apply, regardless of daylight saving time or weather. If you’d like your child to wait inside, know their class end time and be there on or before it.
  • Early pick-up is welcome anytime. If it’s before class ends, please come inside to get your child.
  • Phones are not allowed during Homework Hall or other After School classes.

Extended Day

  • If you’ll regularly be more than 5 minutes late, or want your child inside with a group, sign up for Extended Day. It’s unstructured time after their enrolled class ends to hang out, play games, chat, and listen to music. No phones.
  • Extended Day ends at 5:30 pm.
  • Late fees: After 5:35 pm, we’ll try to reach your child’s ride and confirm someone is on the way. A $10 fee applies for every 10 minutes after 5:35 pm, invoiced to your account.

Fridays

  • There is no Extended Day on Fridays. Please arrive by 3 pm or make sure your child knows how they’re getting home (carpool, walking, biking, bus, TRAX, etc.).

Discipline Policy

After School follows our school-day RISE model: Respect, Inclusion/Integrity, Safety, and Empathy. We hold students accountable for their actions and for how they treat themselves and others, and we expect every student to do their best to live up to these values. Unsafe or disruptive behavior takes away from the focus, engagement, and enjoyment of our classes and community.

Behavior concerns

  • If the program director needs to intervene and call a parent, the student may be dismissed from After School that day, with a consequence that fits the behavior.
  • When absolutely necessary, and depending on the behavior, a student may be suspended from the program until the end of the term, semester, or year. These decisions will never be arbitrary or capricious.

Zero tolerance

  • We have zero tolerance for tobacco, alcohol, weapons of any kind, theft, violence, or illegal drugs sold, used, or possessed during any After School activity. This includes all smoking and vaping paraphernalia.
  • Students may be dismissed for disciplinary reasons or to protect the safety of other children and staff.
  • No refunds are issued if a student is suspended or expelled from After School for any reason.
