Our family joined the Salt Lake Arts Academy community in 2022, when our oldest son entered 5th grade. We were immediately drawn to the unique opportunities for arts education, combined with the incredible teaching team at SLArts. I knew we had found the right place when his favorite class turned out to be ELA! Our younger son joined his older brother at SLArts in 2025 as a 5th grader.
I joined the board in 2023 and am also a small business owner, specializing in water purification. Prior to this, I spent 20 years in the local brewery industry. My background is in chemistry and engineering, and I’ve always loved science and math. Odd as it may sound, I also enjoy working with Excel spreadsheets, especially budgeting, P&L statements, and forecasting.
In addition to running a business, I often work as a substitute teacher with the Salt Lake City School District, where I especially enjoy teaching K-3. From time to time, I also fill in for Jen Guillory at the SLArts front desk. Volunteering on field trips has been another highlight, as it gives me the chance to get to know so many of our students.
Outside of work and school, I love spending time outdoors: climbing, fishing, snowboarding, or going for a run. Our family especially loves Southern Utah and takes every chance we can to head south for canyoneering adventures. We also enjoy traveling together, and I love to cook.
Most of all, I am passionate about supporting SLArts and helping ensure a strong financial future for the school for the next 20 years and beyond. If you see me at an event, a student performance, or even just during drop-off or pick-up, please introduce yourself! And if you’re interested, consider joining the board next year.
