Tuesday Classes/Clubs

Come create in your art studio space! We will be drawing, painting, sculpting, and designing — working with different kinds of media, be it collage, clay, paint, or digital works. Visit with friends, meet new ones, listen to music, be creative. We may head outside to see exhibits at The City Library, murals around the neighborhood, or get inspired by the spaces and architecture around us. Art Social Club includes a sketchbook for plenty of your ideas, doodles, and drafts. Limited student enrollment.

Beyond the twinkling lights and cozy winter tales lies a darker kind of magic where strange creatures lurk in old winter legends! Where do the holiday monsters come from? Want to know more about the day of the dead? Krumpus? The Yule Cat? In WinterLore, we'll journey into the mysterious, magical, and delightfully creepy folklore of the holiday season. Young, intrepid adventurers will learn imaginative make-up techniques and transform themselves into fantastical characters, including .... The Walking Dead -- creating a spooky, zombie transformation.

The Shadow Folk -- explore a mysterious gothic-inspired look, and The Winter Monster — our grand finale transformation! At the end of our adventure, each student will create their very own Monster Look, inspired by the bizarre creatures, magical stories, and enchanted realm we've discovered along the way. WinterLore is for the kids who find magic in the mysterious, delight in the spooky, and aren't afraid to wander off the beaten path.

Move, make stuff, and hang out with good people. Learn Hip Hop, breaking, and contemporary dance. Make videos, shoot photos. Build your own style. Pick up new skills from local dancers and creatives who know their stuff. Some days we dance. Some days we create, and some days we just need a place to land. No auditions. No experience necessary. No pressure to perform. Every few months, there's a chance to show what we have been working on — onstage, on camera, or behind the scenes. Your call, come as you are, find your crew at The Practice Space, and have a ball.

  • Instructor: Sydnie Spehar from The Practice Space, Maven Strong building (on our block! Sydnie will meet the Crew at our school to walk next door together, PICK-UP at The Practice Space.)

Find the flow and fun of flying over the ground, groovin' with others, and growing our skills on skates! We will make sure we have time to practice good technique, so we can enjoy this joyful sport with confidence, whether we want to focus on developing our floor or street hockey game, or whether we want to dance on wheels — easily skating backward, smoothly doing crossovers, and moving to the funkiest music we can find. Wherever you are on your skating journey, we'll have time to rest, plenty of support, and lots of laughter & games with fellow skaters.

We cannot provide roller skates or roller blades, so students must have their own equipment, including your essential helmet. Helmets are required; Wrist pads and/or knee pads can be helpful and are encouraged, though not mandatory.

  • Instructor: Skeet Couper

  • TERM TWO class begins Tuesday, Nov 3, ends Jan 12

Run Club training continues through December. All club runners who are ready to build on their distance, times, and strength will still be meeting on both Tuesdays and Thursday to run with the club, as well as commit to their home training (based upon Coach T's weekly emails). Remember to wear appropriate gear — warm & dry enough for runs in almost all temperatures and weather conditions —rain, light snow, or sun!

End 2026 with mileage and pacing to be proud of, as well as closer to our goals for the spring with Teens Run SLC! Your commitment to being a healthy runner is showing, so keep with it and watch the results!

  • Coaches: Coach T, Jake Paszko, SLArts Alum Kira Hill-Filben, and additional guest runners. We welcome any parent runners who wish to join us and occasionally lead the group as volunteers and assistants.
  • ALL Grades
  • Cost $185 for 2x/week
Fall Run Club is different from Teens Run SLC. Teens Run SLC is a free spring program, run by a nonprofit partner, that includes training and coaching all semester, swag, and registration for the Salt Lake Half Marathon, 10K, or 5K. Run Club is led by our teachers without an outside organization, so your support helps us keep the fall club running.
  • Twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Fall semester begins Tuesday, Aug 25, ends on Thursday, December 17
  • Routes and pick up times will vary and can be found in Mr. T's weekly emails.
  • Meets for about an hour each session and ends between 4:15 and 4:30 pm, depending on the length of that day’s run.

This is a continuing group from Term 1.

Hey, let's form an after school band! Bring your instrument (including your voice), nominate your favorite song, and let's get together to practice, collaborate, perform live, and have a great time! We hope to have returning band members from last year and add some new faces. While we are inclusive of aspiring musicians of all types and levels, Music Collective is not the place to pick up a difficult instrument from scratch. Some experience or enrollment in private lessons is helpful. At home practice is also required. Ready to make music? Let's jam!

  • Instructor: Eric McKenna-Spreng
  • ALL Grades
  • Cost: Paid in Term 1 ($195 + $20 material fee)
  • Fall Semester ends mid-January with a performance / date TBD
  • Email Kathleen Smith about joining the Music Collective at kathleen@slarts.org
  • Class ends at 4:15 pm / 1 HOUR CLASS

Extra math assistance and instruction in small groups from our Math faculty and others familiar with our CPM Math curriculum. Our grade level groups focus on both math homework completion while also developing conceptual math understanding. Math Tutorial continues all year long, but registration occurs per term to allow for flexibility in students’ changing schedules and proficiency. Math Tutorial is offered on Tuesday and/or Thursday.

  • Faculty Instructors: Dan Armstrong, Melissa Hollingshaus, Nate Christensen, and MeiMei Nagata-Brown

Need a chance to get your homework done before your busy afternoon and evening activities? Students focus on their school work or silent reading in a quiet, supervised “study hall.” Sign up for one day or more, depending upon your needs. Homework Hall continues all year long, but registration occurs per term to allow for flexibility in students’ changing after-school schedules. Homework Hall is offered Monday through Thursday.

  • Instructor: Karin Fenn (top floor, rm 304)
  • ALL Grades
  • Cost $75
  • TERM TWO class begins Tue, November 3, ends Jan 12
  • Class ends at 4:15 pm / 1 HOUR CLASS

THIS IS ONLY FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED EARLIER IN THE DAY.

Downtime follows our enrolled after school classes. It’s unstructured but supervised, which sets it apart from Homework Hall and our other activity-based classes. Students can socialize, play games, and hang out until a parent or pick-up arrives.

If your child doesn’t head out on their own (by bus, bike, on foot, carpool, or TRAX), Downtime is a great option after our other after school offerings. In the fall, we’ll primarily be outside in the north courtyard.

Our school-wide cell phone policy still applies during this time, so students should not have their phones out.

If you need your child ready to leave immediately, please text Kathleen Smith. Otherwise, they’ll watch for you to pull up. Parents are always welcome to come inside and visit.

  • Open to: ALL Grades
  • Cost $55 for full term (Tuesdays only)
  • TERM TWO class begins Tue, November 3, ends Jan 12
  • Hours: Begins when your child’s last class ends and runs until 5:30 pm sharp
  • Late pick-up: A $10 fee applies for every 10 minutes after 5:35 pm
