Make a life long relationship with the incredibly versatile harmonica. We'll start with basic techniques, explore different genres of music, depending upon class interest & favorite songs. The harmonica appears in a wide range of styles — folk, blues, rock n' roll, country, but you can also find it in jazz or even classical music. The more proficient you become, the more we'll explore. Then drum up your courage and try your hand with a band! We'll use a 10-hole diatonic harmonica in the key of "C", provided for you. Class size is limited to six players.

  • Instructor: Howard Horowitz, who plays regularly in Park City and has enjoyed playing for decades. (He is also closely tied to our school as our former Chess Coach and parent of an alum during SLArt's very first years.)

Does pineapple belong on a pizza? Should our school have uniforms? Do we all deserve access to free, quality healthcare? Should some books be banned? What do you think about AI? If you are ready to passionately defend your opinion on any of these questions, then you are ready for the SLArts Debate Club.

Learn how to influence others' opinions, strengthen your arguments with facts, recognize logical fallacies, and find quality research. This fun, super social, middle school club is the best place to talk with your friends while also building your communication skills, your critical reasoning, and your confidence. Here you'll find the perfect introduction to a lively and focused extracurricular activity without any high stakes, timed arguments, or stress, but instead, just sharing creative, critical thinking with friends and fun!

Learn greetings and salutations, how to order at restaurants, describe things about yourself and what you are seeing around you, and gain some understanding of the present tense of speech.

Over the term we'll have activities such as games, skits, creating comics, heading out to markets & other field trips, along with classroom lessons, too. An emphasis on Spanish and Latin American culture through explorations of food, music, traditions, and some history is part of the fun with friends old and new. ¡Ven con nosotros!

These free clubs are for girls and non-binary students to join a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models using computer science to change the world! See yourself as a computer scientist while you learn the concepts of loops, variables, conditionals and functions that form the basis of all computer languages. Work in teams to complete a computer science impact project that solves a real-world problem in our community!

  • Girls Who Code offers a few field trips to nearby locations during the school year. On those days, class may run later, closer to 5 pm. Students will return to the school, and we’ll always notify parents ahead of time. Parent volunteers are welcome and help us take more field trips!

Girls Who Code loves to bring in women with jobs in Computer Science or other STEM/technology fields to present to the girls as a visiting presenter. If you work in these fields, or know someone we might reach out to, please let us know.

Discover the fun of foley arts! Never heard of it? Make the sound effects, incorporate music, and find the voice of your characters that move the story along, creating a vivid experience for the listener. Maybe we'll figure out how to sound out a raging storm, a fight scene, or a mysterious animal; Whether we are using pre-recorded sounds, handling objects that whir, crank, or ring out loud, we'll have a great time working out all the specifics. Our semester is packed with fun as we learn about the history of radio plays, write our own scripts, record them, and have a theatrical performance presented solely through audio. Join us to create radio play magic together!

Run Club training continues through December. All club runners who are ready to build on their distance, times, and strength will still be meeting on both Tuesdays and Thursday to run with the club, as well as commit to their home training (based upon Coach T's weekly emails). Remember to wear appropriate gear — warm & dry enough for runs in almost all temperatures and weather conditions —rain, light snow, or sun!

End 2026 with mileage and pacing to be proud of, as well as closer to our goals for the spring with Teens Run SLC! Your commitment to being a healthy runner is showing, so keep with it and watch the results!

  • Coaches: Coach T, Jake Paszko, SLArts Alum Kira Hill-Filben, and additional guest runners. We welcome any parent runners who wish to join us and occasionally lead the group as volunteers and assistants.

Fall Run Club is different from Teens Run SLC. Teens Run SLC is a free spring program, run by a nonprofit partner, that includes training and coaching all semester, swag, and registration for the Salt Lake Half Marathon, 10K, or 5K. Run Club is led by our teachers without an outside organization, so your support helps us keep the fall club running.

  • Fall semester continues on Tuesday, November 3, ends on Thursday, December 17
  • Routes and pick up times will vary and can be found in Mr. T's weekly emails.
  • Meets for about an hour each session and ends between 4:15 and 4:30 pm, depending on the length of that day’s run.

Extra math assistance and instruction in small groups from our Math faculty & others familiar with our CPM Math curriculum. Need a chance to get your homework done before your busy afternoon and evening activities? Students focus on their school work or silent reading in a quiet, supervised “study hall.” Sign up for one day or more, depending upon your needs. Homework Hall continues all year long, but registration occurs per term to allow for flexibility in students’ changing after-school schedules. Homework Hall is offered Monday through Thursday.

  • TERM TWO class begins Thur, November 5, ends Jan 14

THIS IS ONLY FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED EARLIER IN THE DAY.

Downtime follows our enrolled after school classes. It’s unstructured but supervised, which sets it apart from Homework Hall and our other activity-based classes. Students can socialize, play games, and hang out until a parent or pick-up arrives.

If your child doesn’t head out on their own (by bus, bike, on foot, carpool, or TRAX), Downtime is a great option after our other after school offerings. In the fall, we’ll primarily be outside in the north courtyard.

Our school-wide cell phone policy still applies during this time, so students should not have their phones out.

If you need your child ready to leave immediately, please text Kathleen Smith. Otherwise, they’ll watch for you to pull up. Parents are always welcome to come inside and visit.

  • Open to: ALL Grades
  • Cost $55 for full term (Thursdays only)
  • TERM TWO class begins Thur, November 5, ends Jan 14
  • Hours: Begins when your child’s last class ends and runs until 5:30 pm sharp
  • Late pick-up: A $10 fee applies for every 10 minutes after 5:35 pm
